The head of public service Joseph Kinyua has issued a ban on foreign travel on government officials.

Kinyua issued a letter to Cabinet Secretaries, The Attorney General and Principal Secretaries stating no government officials are allowed to leave the country without clearance from the president.

“This is to notify you that it has been decided, until further advised otherwise, no government official will travel outside the country without clearance by the president,” reads the letter in part.

“For avoidance of any doubt, the officials in reference include Cabinet Secretaries, Principal Secreataries and officers in ministries, chief executive officers of parastatals and their officers and Board of Directors of parastatals,” the letter reads as quoted by the Daily Nation.

This is a usual measure implemented by the government from time to time on the foreign travel of its officers but it was not the case with this letter.

However, the letter is not directed to independent offices and constitutional commissions.
