The resignation of Nairobi deputy governor Polycarp Igathe came as a surprise to his boss Mike Sonko and even State House, a source has said.

According to the Nation, a source intimated that despite Igathe being widely viewed as State House's pointman in Sonko's administration, the house on the hill was equally surprised by his move.

“This was a surprise to even me. State House and the governor did not expect this too,” said the source.

Igathe had given a super interview at NTV on Friday morning where he painted clear Mr Sonko's administration agenda for Nairobians.

Despite reports of fallout between Sonko and Igathe as earlier covered in the media, there was no hint of a frosty relationship during the interview.

Kenyans now await to see what will happen after the resignation as the law is silent on what happens if a deputy governor resigns.
