The police will not spare anyone involved in destruction of property and endangering other people’s lives, State House spokesman Manoah Esipisu has said.
In his briefing, Esipisu said police will do everything within their powers to restore law and order disrupted by post-election protests.
On Friday night, after the announcement of presidential results, protests begun in opposition strongholds – Kisumu, Homa Bay, Siaya and parts of Nairobi.
The Kenya National Commission on Human Rights says 24 people have been killed by the police during the protests.
Esipisu said police are ready to offer security for peaceful demonstrations as stated in the constitution.“The violent protests are unlawful, so let me be perfectly clear here; police will not tolerate breaches of the peace, instead, they will protect the lives and property of Kenyans; they will restore law and order,” said Esipisu on Sunday. He warned leaders against inciting Kenyans into violence.“Do not let yourself be a pawn in someone else’s game; let the Constitution decide any disputes that remain,” Esipisu said.
