The government has beefed up security in Tana River and Lamu counties to stop Al Shabaab attacks that have slowed down the construction of the Sh10 billion Garsen - Witu - Lamu road.

Infrastructure principal secretary John Mosonik said the move will enable the H Young East Africa Limited contractor to complete the project in time and end marginalization of the region.

"Due to the attacks from the Al Shabaab terrorists in the region, there has been a delay for the project to end in  good time but now that the security has been beefed up, the contractor's workers can work and complete the project without delay," said Mosonik.

He said the workers' security will be provided at work and where they will be staying until the project comes to completion.
