Addressing the press in Mlolongo town on Thursday, Angaza Counseling Centre's coordinator Jane Ngaira said the chiefs were indications that the state was sensitive on gender equity and equality.

"I commend the state for recognizing women in the administrative positions that have in the past for a long period of time been dominated by men, women can," said Ngaira.

Ngaira said the government should hire more women in the region not only as chiefs and assistants and also in other positions.

She said as a female leader, she supports the government for elevating women in leadership positions asserting that three of the five assistant county commissioners in the sub-county were women.

Ngaira said Mavoko sub-county was a justification that women can be entrusted with serious leadership.

The Machakos County Commissioner is also a woman.

Ngaira encouraged the leadership of Machakos County Government to emulate the state and hire as many women as possible into various key leadership position in the government.

She said the women if more empowered and bestowed more authority can  positively transform societies unlike men due to their motherly and humane natures.
