The government has lifted the ban on medical camps conducted by foreign doctors.
The Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentist Board in June imposed a ban on all medical camps organised by foreign doctors over mistreatment claims and referral of patients to overseas hospitals at a fee.
In a statement on Thursday, the board said all future medical camps will now be regulated by new rules that were gazetted by Health Cabinet secretary, Dr Cleopha Mailu.
They include application of licences by the foreign doctors from the board.
According to the Standard, the medics will be required to state a list of medical professionals who will treat patients at the camps.
They will also have to disclose all the medical equipment and supplies to be used during the camps and how they will dispose of the waste.
"The application shall be accompanied by a detailed profile of the medical camp including the dates, location and service provided," the read the statement signed by KMPD board chair Prof George Magoha.
A medical camp shall also not be held for more that seven days unless the board otherwise permits.
According to the new rules, county governments will also be involved in the approval of the camps by ensuring those conducting them are not after making benefits such as financial.
Prof Magoha said the decision was arrived at by the Cabinet Secretary for Health in consultation with the board.
