Human Rights group Haki Africa has accused the government of laxity in resolving the ongoing nurses' strike.

In a press statement on Wednesday, the group called on the state to suspend political campaigns in preparation for the August polls and instead shift its focus to dealing with the health crisis.

“We are calling for the immediate suspension of campaigns countrywide for attention to be given to the health crisis affecting millions of Kenyans,” Haki Africa Executive Director Hussein Khalid stated.

Khalid further claimed that the government had neglected the plight of Kenyans.

“We must prioritise Kenyans, not individuals’ desires to lead,” he noted.

The nurses begun its nationwide strike about three weeks ago, calling on the counties to sign a Collective Bargaining Agreement for higher pay.

Governors have since dismissed the CBA, arguing that it is too costly for the devolved units.
