The bold moves to deal with corruption head on were more than anticipated by anyone. It was a rare event.

Time runs so fast and the next address is here, waiting anxiously.

Holding all the other areas constant, corruption has dominated the agenda of the nation.

It would be hypocritical to underestimate the role played by the government in the corruption fight.

In fact, the year will serve as a historic reference which a battalion of Cabinet secretaries had to vacate their luxurious positions over corruption allegations. And most importantly, never to return. It was a fantastic step.

The year was not short of setbacks too. A governor alleged to have bribed a Supreme Court judge was and still is an expose boiling heads and overstayed in the headlines.

The matter is under the scrutiny of a tribunal. Even before the outcome, public trust in the institution is shaken.

The rot in the former super Ministry of Devolution was so stinky. Millions involved.

From the National Youth Service to Youth Fund scam. And instead of the giant stakeholders stepping aside immediately, their delay to vacate office added tension and injury to the masses who were already excited.

With a similar rot in the counties, corruption remains an endemic enemy. The Head of State's address will be expected to shed more light on the way forward as far as corruption is concerned.
