The government denied a request made by Supreme Court judges demanding extra security.
They requested extra security after the shooting of DCJ Philomena Mwilu's bodyguard last week in what prevented her from holding a crucial hearing that could have affected the date of the repeat presidential election.
Asked on the request by the judges, Interior ministry spokesman Mwenda Njoka said that the government enhanced security for all judges in the wake of the shooting.
"If anybody is telling you to the contrary, they are not telling the truth," he told Reuters.
According to the state, the
bodyguard's shooting was an incident of robbery
rather than a plot to intimidate the judges.
But the judges were angered by the response.
"In Kenya, ordinary criminals don't attack government vehicles driven by armed government agents who know how to shoot," a source from the court said as quoted by the Standard.
