The national government has unveiled plans to resettle over 3,000 squatters in Kagaa settlement scheme in Kilifi County.Kilifi North MP Gideon Mung’aro, who spoke to Kibarani Ward Progressive Association (KIWAPA) said President Uhuru Kenyatta and his Deputy William Ruto are committed to reseltling all landless locals in the region before their term ends.“The government has set aside Sh220million for the resettlement of the squatters living at Kagaa Settlement scheme,” said Mung’aro, as quoted by Baraka FM. The legislator, who has been a strong critic of Governor Amason Kingi, said the national government is putting in place measures to ensure that the squatters are presented with title deeds as soon as possible. “Kagaa is one of the six parcels of land that the Parliamentary committee on land was working on and its resolution has been reached that the government settles the locals and gives them title deeds,” he added. The MP, a jubilee aspirant for the area’s governor seat, also revealed that the State has recovered 2300 acres of land in the ward, adding that it will be returned to the rightful owners once parliament resolves the issue.“The government has gotten back 2,300 acres of land that was illegally taken from the locals by a manufacturing firm. The parliamentary committee on lands has resolved that it should be given back to the locals. That is what will happen,” added Mung’aro.
