The Government has come up with a building research centre as one way of addressing a shortage of 1.8 million houses.According to Housing and Urban Development Principal Secretary Aidah Monano, lack of a research centre has greatly affected the housing sector in Kenya.

"The goverment plans to build over 1 million houses in the next five years and this will be part of the measures to address the current shortages," Monano said.

Monano was opening a three day Workshop in Naivasha, Nakuru county.

The Kenya Building Research Centre is expected to form a forum for stakeholders and private practitioners to address the shortage.

"We need 1.85 million houses units mainly in urban centres," The PS added.
