2,000 elderly people in Kilifi county will each have one acre of land cultivated by the government free of charge.

The Government on Monday started cultivating 2,000 acres to cushion the elderly from the effects of drought as Kilifi happens to be one of the worst-hit counties.

Agriculture PS Richard Lesiyampe said they have gone ahead to identify the beneficiaries.

Lesiyampe spoke on Saturday in Mwanjama after he and Mining CS Dan Kazungu distributed 20,000 tonnes of maize seeds and 2,000 bags of fertiliser.

“We have subcontracted our Agricultural Mechanical Services to take charge of screening for all the marginalised families and small-scale elderly farmers,” he said as quoted by the Star.
