The Kenya school of Law (KSL) has directed the Commission for University Education (CUE) to find out the reason why half of candidates failed their examination.
Last year, only 445 students Out of the 1991 students passed the examination which is administered by the council of legal Education (CLE).
A taskforce report released in January this year confirmed massive failure of law students seeking to be admitted as advocates of the high court from the year 2009 to 2016. The report indicated that only 7,530 out of 16,086 students who sat for the bar examinations passed translating to a failure rate of 53 percent.
“Over the years, the performance has been of concern not only to the KSL , CLE , legal sector and students but also the country at larger “ Amos Mwangi KSL assistant director said while addressing media .
CUE now has a duty to look into the curriculum, staffing, funding and how it contributes to course taking and also qualify students seeking to be admitted as advocates of the high court.
This comes a few days after the CUE censored Daystar University from operation. There was no evidence that Daystar University had been doing curriculum review. The university was also on the spot for having a Bachelor of Law degree programe that had not been enrolled into.
