Briefing the press at his Kiambu office on Thursday, Njomo said it is illegal for police or any other individual to misuse firearms.

The MP observed that cases of officers misusing their firearms are common in Kiambu and called for action against them.

“The Interior Cabinet Secretary should firmly deal with officers who misuse firearms,” he said.

The MP added that police officers are supposed to use their guns to protect Kenyans and not to intimidate and cause fear.

The legislator also asked Nkaissery to spearhead police reforms that have stalled saying that the police force is slowly losing its credibility.

Njomo said that corruption and use of excess force are the major issues that need to be addressed.

He also said that the government must improve the living condition of the police officers.

He wondered why the government expects the police to perform well when their living standards are poor.

The MP added that the police force is a profession just like others and needs urgent reformation.

Meanwhile, the MP has asked youths in the area to stay away from crime. The MP said cases of young people taking part in crime has rise a move he said is a setback to development.

He instead asked the youths to be active and work with county leaders to propel development.
