The government has been asked to enhance security ahead of the next month's repeat of presidential elections to ensure there is high voter turnout in North Eastern region.
According to a Garissa politician Mohamed Karur, who unsuccessfully vied for the Garissa County senatorial position, it might be difficult for people to vote owing the current terror threats in some parts of Garissa county.
He said hundreds of pastoralists who moved with their livestock to grazing areas might not vote and therefore, the government should put in place measures to ensure the pastoralists return to their homes and participate in the election process.
Karur noted that the curfew in the region alone has not guaranteed the security of the people and called on acting Interior Cs Fred Matang'i to ensure more police officers are deployed to beef up security in the region.
