The government has been urged to carry out road safety awareness campaigns so as to reduce road accidents common during the festive season.
Kiambu senator Kimani Wamatangi observed that many motorists and the public have little or no knowledge on road safety.
He said that while there exist laws, policies and regulations on road safety, road most users are not aware of them.
“It is important for the government to ensure that road users are educated on issues pertaining to roads and safety,” he said.
The senator said that roads accidents would be reduced if the government fully implemented its regulations.
Wamatangi said that the government must also consult and engage stakeholders in the transport industry as it implements the laws.
The senate law maker added that the government should make sure that flouters of traffic rules are arrested and charged in court.
He said that raod accidents are one of the major killers in the country and that more policies to curb the same must be initiated and implemented.
Meanwhile, police in Kimende, Lari Sub County are looking for a driver of a salon car who hit and killed a pedestrian on Tuesday night.
The motorist is said to have knocked down the deceased before escaping. The body of the deceased was found on Wednesday morning.
Confirming the incident, sub county commissioner Alfred Makoma warned speeding motorists saying their days are numbered.
He said that motorists speed at night and that several people have been killed along the Lari-Nakuru road.
