The national government has been challenged to channel more resources to county governments for them to perform well.
Addressing the media after touring Eldoret town on Wednesday, Uasin Gishu senator Isaack Melly observed that counties have little resources to advance development.
The senator stated that provision of more resources to county governments will boost service delivery.
“The national government should allocate more resources to the county governments for them to perform,” he said.
Melly said that lack of enough resources has resulted to strikes and go slows by county workers.
He cited the strike that was held by nurses at the Moi and Referral Hospital saying it hampered provision of healthcare services.
The strike has been since called off as nurses and doctors resume work.
He indicated that such strikes will continue policy development and projects meant to benefit the people.
“We want the national government to help the county governments in terms of resources,” he added.
The senator said the senate will continue to spearhead laws and policies that will consider the welfare of county workers.
He asked the county government not to intimidate to punish any health workers who participated in the strike.
The senate lawmaker further called on the county governor Jackson Mandago to engage workers in consultations.
He said consultations will prevent strikes and enable stakeholders to have say in county policies and laws.
