The government has been urged to get rid of the law allowing people using Identity cards to cross the country’s borders.
Nakuru residents cited that the law made it easier for terrorists to come and go out of the country undetected.
Speaking to this writer in Lanet, the residents cited that it had become easy to forge ID cards, and terrorists took advantage of that.
“It is so hard to identify the photo on the ID card and relate it to the owners. Terrorists can pick any unused ID and pass by the border without being detected,” noted Emily Muthoni, one of the residents.
She argued that many of the terrorists could be using IDs collected in lost and found zones in the country.
Evans Muriu said that there were also many unpicked IDs in passport control offices, which the Terrorists could have access to.
“They might bribe someone and get them, allowing them to cross over the country at ease. This is dangerous to our country,” he added
Margaret Muema observed that it was easier to forge an ID card compared to a passport.
“The process is much easier and many people can do that. However, with a passport, more skill is required since it also has very many pages,” she added.
