Nakuru Cyber Business Association (NCBA) Chairperson Agness Muchiri has urged the State to invest heavily in cybercrime management to boost national security and cyber related economic crimes.
Speaking on Friday during an interview with this writer in his office, Chairperson Muchiri noted that the State had not invested enough in issues related to cybercrime that have so far cost the country lives and economic gains.
According to Muchiri, the State should train more cybercrime detectives and employ services of leading local and international cyber security experts to make a breakthrough in detecting and mitigating insecurity and cyber related economic crimes.
“It is evident that our government seems not to be noticing a loop hole in the control or management of cybercrimes in the country. In this era of internet technology criminals and terrorists are changing tact by manipulating the low level of commitment by the State to detect and control these crimes that are costing Kenyans tens of lives and economic gains,’’ noted Muchiri.
She further noted that cybercrime perpetrators were taking advantage on loopholes in laws and policies that govern the use of internet and other Information Communication Technology (ICT) resources by private citizens, organisations and government agencies.
The ICT expert further hinted that bright and talented students and graduates of ICT and other related training in the country should be tapped and offered further training to work for the government in cybercrime management fields.
