Nakuru County Music Festival Association (MFA) secretary Michael Tuitoek said schools need more funds to nurture talent.

Speaking at St. Mary’s primary school in Nakuru during the start of the region’s music festivals on Tuesday, Tuitoek said that association is relying on donor funds to run the extra-curricular activities.

He complained that the amount of funds received from the government is not sufficient. He added that the under-funding is hampering talent development.

“We request the government to consider increasing the funds allocated to co-curricular activities in order to grow talent. This is the only way our children can manage to learn about their other strengths apart from education,” he said.

The official urged primary school heads to invest in co-curricular activities and seek support from the government, well-wishers and donors.

The region’s festival, whose theme is ‘Nurturing Creative Talents for Creativity’, comprises teams from eight counties in the Rift Valley region.
