The commander in chief of Kenya’s armed forces said Kenya cannot afford to go through another cycle of violence as witnessed after the bungled 2007 general election.

He said the State will firmly deal with violence perpetrators irrespective of their status in society.

“We want peace, and I want to assure you we will have peace,” he said during the burial ceremony of Laikipia Senator GG Kariuki in Rumuruti on Friday.

“It’s true we have problems. But we can’t solve these problems by fighting, we can dialogue.”

In an indirect reference to opposition leader Raila Odinga, he said his administration will not entertain leaders out to divide Kenyans along tribal lines.

Uhuru, his deputy, William Ruto and Parliament Majority leader recently told off Raila over allegations he incited members of the Maasai community to evict non-Maasais from Kajiado and Narok counties.

“If you think you can cause chaos in the country, know you are daydreaming,” he said.

“We will deal with you irrespective of who are.”

Laikipia where he was speaking from is among counties which have for long experienced violent clashes.

Two days before Uhuru flew to the county six police officers had lost their lives after being shot by suspected cattle rustlers.

He described the late senator as a man who “loved peace and respected everyone.”

Ruto said the late former Laikipia West MP will be remembered for his dedication in seeing Kenya develop.
