The government has finally registered 2950 Amakonde people from Kwale County.
The community which has not been recognized as a full tribe was registered on Tuesday awaiting issuance of identity cards in December this year.
The registered include 1524 adults and 1426 children.
According to Interior CS Joseph Nkaissery, the issuance of IDs will enable security organs to monitor the community.
A section of the residents who addressed the media thanked the government for the initiative stating that they will enjoy services like other Kenyans.
Early this month a delegation of about 3,000 people went to State House where they were promised by President Uhuru Kenyatta that they will finally be recognized.
The community is alleged to have moved to Kenya from Norther Mozambique as sisal plantation workers.
They have been residing in Kwale county without citizenship.
