[Photo|David Ochola]"Press Statement CREDIBILITY OF 2017 KCSE RESULTS AS RELEASED BY KNEC QUESTIONABLE Wednesday, Dec 27, 2017, NAIROBI: We wish to join Kenyans in expressing concerns over the integrity of the recently released KCSE results. As you may be aware, form four candidates sat for their final tests in the months of October and November this year. The results of which were released by Education Cabinet Secretary Dr Fred Matiang'i on Wednesday, December 20, 2017. The results have exposed a shockingly serendipitous massive failures by candidates, a phenomenon never witnessed before in the annals of our country. Out of the 615, 000 candidates who were examined, only a niggardly 70, 000 managed to score a minimum University entry grade of C+ and above representing a 11% transition to Universities. This is a steep decline from the previous years. It also means that our universities will be underutilized for only 70000 are eligible for University admission yet our universities have a capacity of 95000.Which begs the question, what actually went wrong during the marking and grading of candidates? This is the question every Kenyan is asking but neither Kenya National Examinations Council, KNEC nor Dr Matiang'i has provided convincing answers. Irrespective of where you stand, these results are a pernicious outcome and have visited shame and derision on the candidates, their parents and the entire Nation. For lack of a better word, the results have morphed over years from being a source of National celebrations to a source of National shame. Surely, the agony of parents and dwindled hopes of candidates whose fate has been confined to the ugliest corners of history by this brazenly discriminatory, and indecipherably archaic marking and grading system must not be treated lightly. We have listened to complaints from Kenyans, 2017 candidates, education experts and other key stakeholders who've casted doubts on the probity of these results that serve no impetus but to imperil the future of our kids and we have concluded that due indulgence of the Parliament on the matter beforehand; of the integrity of 2017 KCSE results is urgently needed. We have therefore today petitioned the speaker of the National Assembly to urgently recall Members of Parliament from recess for a special sitting of the house pursuant to Standing Order number 29. It is our belief that as the constitutionally recognized body of the people's Representatives, Parliament should pronounce itself on matters of public interest and the current raging debate on KCSE results undoubtedly meets the requisite threshold for its action. The future of our kids is at stake here and history will judge us harshly if we don't step in and come to the aid of hundreds of thousands of kids whose hopes for a meaningful future have been battered by Matiang'i and over excited KNEC officials. Finally, we wish to convey our greetings to all Kenyans this festive season. We urge them to stay safe and restrain themselves from indulging in activities that put their lives at risk. We implore drivers to be vigilant on the road so as not to endanger the lives of fellow Kenyans. We wish all Kenyans a prosperous new year 2018.Thank you. Hon Mark Nyamita, MP Uriri."
