Political analyst, Samuel Salat has warned Farah Maalim against seeking to vie for the Garissa legislative seat.
Salat says Cord’s persistence to send the current MP, Aden Duale home will be their downfall and they should instead focus on the senatorial seat and not the legislative post.
The analyst pointed out that it was easier for Maalim to win the lucrative senatorial seat which he slightly lost during the 2013 general elections.
“He wanted the senatorial position in 2013 which he lost slightly. Why not now? Is it not for Cord anger to send Duale home that made them endorse a strong opponent such as Maalim," said Salat.
He added that their greed to unseat Duale will make the presidential race hard for Cord.
“Cord is focusing their campaigns on Garissa just to teach Duale a lesson instead of going for the bigger fish. Duale is a hero according to his people and they are most likely to re-elect him in 2017,” he stated.
His advice to Maalim is to go for either the governor’s seat or senatorial position since Duale has made political mileage since he ascended to power.
“Maalim should avoid being used by Cord and seek the governor’s or senator's seat which is easier for him to achieve than Duale’s legislative position,’’ Salat said.
