President Uhuru Kenyatta has responded to Mombasa Governor Ali Hassan Joho on the alleged inflated cost of the Standard Gauge Railway.
Joho, speaking in Siaya town on Monday, accused the Jubilee government of inflating the SGR cost by Sh100 billion.
Joho said the project was to cost Sh200 billion as per the Grand Coalition Government's budget.
The ODM deputy party leaders threatened to stop the launch of the multi-billion project on Wednesday, if Uhuru’s administration does not explain the “extra cost”.
However, in rejoinder, Uhuru asked Joho to concentrate on justifying to residents why he should be re-elected come August 8.
"The Governor has been criticising our projects here at the Coast including this SGR project. He should focus on completing at least one of his own like building dykes or cleaning the city before he starts looking elsewhere," the Jubilee Party leader said on Tuesday in Mombasa.
The President and his deputy William Ruto will be launching the Standard Guage Railway cargo train on Wednesday at Port Riz.
They will ride on the train from Mombasa to Nairobi.
