Ford Kenya and Wiper parties have told ODM not to field candidates in their perceived strongholds.
Led by Wiper’s Kalonzo Musyoka and Moses Wetang’ula of Ford Kenya, the parties on Monday said that this agreed when Raila Odinga was named the NASA flagbearer.
The two spoke at Posta Grounds in Bungoma during a NASA rally which locked out ODM members and leaders.
Wiper's Kalonzo said that NASA affiliate parties agreed to ask their supporters to vote Raila for President while the other NASA affiliate parties get other seats in their strongholds.
ODM must now honour the deal, he said.
“With all due respect, this is not a matter for deliberation. It’s all on record in our accord and it’s common sense Wetang’ula is a co-principal in NASA, who shelved his presidential ambition for the ODM leader. In turn, ODM must shelve its ambitions for other seats in his Western home turf, especially here in Bungoma,” Kalonzo said.
Contrary to what Kalonzo said, ODM has fielded their candidates in Ford Kenya's perceived strongholds of Bungoma and Kakamega.
In Bungoma, ODM has fielded a gubernatorial candidate in Alfred Khang’ati and he will face Ford Kenya’s Wycliffe Wangamati.
In the same county, ODM has fielded Bonny Nyongesa to compete Wetang'ula in the senatorial race.
