Doctors working in various government hospitals in Nyamira County have been warned against skipping duty at their work stations to operate their private clinics.
This comes after a report conducted by the department of health showed that most doctors preferred attending patients in their private clinics rather than working in their respective stations.
Speaking at Gesima Hospital on Wednesday, chief health officer Dr Douglas said his office will crack a whip of errant doctors who had resorted to their private businesses rather than serving the public.
"All doctors are paid by the county government and as chief health officer, I want to see work done. I am not impressed with the report that was conducted by some of my officials. It’s a sad thing that some doctors preferred working in their private clinics when they are supposed to be serving the public,” he said.
Bosire challenged the doctors to take their work seriously or resign before he cracks a whip on them by sending them packing.
“The doctors have a number of options. They can choose to stay in their work station or resign otherwise I will be keen to send some of them packing because we want to see seriousness in our public hospitals,” he said.
He also ordered a number of doctors who had been transferred a week ago to report to their new work stations before his office takes a stiff action against them.
“It’s not just those who are spending time in their clinics. I am told that some Doctors are yet to report to their new work stations a week after the transfers were affected. They should work in speed before we catch up with them,” he added.
