Facebook is increasingly becoming a platform for cons to solicit money from the public and the latest victim is Rarieda MP Otiende Amollo.
Otiende on Wednesday said a suspected cons running a Facebook account under his name have been soliciting money from Kenyans claiming he is raising cash to help construct houses in his constituency.
He said the cons tell their targeted 'clients' that the money will be spent in implementing a project in which he targets at phasing out grass-touched in Rarieda by constructing iron sheet roofed houses.
The senior lawyer said he has reported the matter to police and law enforcement agencies have commenced investigations into the matter.
"I have learned that some cons are soliciting money in my name for this and other fake initiatives, by SMS, Facebook, and WhatsApp," the first time MP said.
"I have reported these to police, but wish to warn against falling for these cons. I am not on Facebook either. If in doubt, please direct message me."
The MP's warning comes days after a man was arrested for conning MPs money running into millions of shillings.
Wazir Chacha is said to have registered a cellphone line under the name of Murang’a Woman Representative Sabina Chege which he used to solicit money from MPs claiming 'she' was sick and was seeking for financial help to undergo treatment.
