A standard six pupil committed suicide at Michatha village in Molo sub-county after spending Sh100 which he snatched from her sister who was heading to a local shop where she had been sent by their parents.
Sources said the pupil skipped school after being sent home over a birth certificate and was expected to return to school accompanied by his parent.
Nehemiah Muluka, 13, of Sulguita Primary School in Turi ward hanged himself with a piece of bedding sheet at their home.
Neighbours said they were shocked to find his body dangling from the roof of their sitting room.
Ruth Watiri, a neighbour to the deceased, told reporters at the scene that, Nehemiah’s younger sister broke the bad news to neighbours.
"At first it was not easy for us to believe what the young girl was telling us, we were shocked to see the body dangling and a poorly written note was beside him," she added.
Watiri said she called the area chief who on arrived at the scene before calling police officers from Molo Police station.
According to family members and Michatha sub location assistant chief Jackson Njoroge, the suicidal note did not provide the reason as to why the pupil decided to take his life.
The family said they had cautioned the child against frequent movement to video shows where he spent much of his free time but their plea had fallen on deaf ears.
The note only revealed that the writer loved his brothers and sisters and also named several friends who he asked to attend his burial.
The deceased also asked his family to make chapatis for those who will turn up to mourn his demise.
Chief Njoroge said all entertainment joints that allow children under the age of 18 years will be shutdown and stern measures taken against proprietors.
He said the war on coin gambling machines and illicit brew had a positive progress with the help of local residents.
The boy’s body was taken to Molo sub-county mortuary.
Molo OCPD Daniel Kamanza said police had launched investigation into the incident.
