Government officials distributing relief food and other consumable supplies meant for drought mitigation in the arid North Eastern region have been sternly warned against any misappropriation.

Issuing the statement, the regional county co-coordinator Mohamud Saleh on Thursday said the government has mobilized adequate resources that is enough for the needy households. 

He further added that a number of Kenya Redcross officials have been dispatced to oversee the distribution processes.

"I am sending a stern warning to all officials handling relief foods. Each and every individual shall be held accountable for any losses that will be recorded," he said.

The county coordinator said the government exploited all within its powers to make sure that no Kenyan citizen dies of hunger and will never allow a 'few greedy government officials' to take slight advantage of the situation to enrich themselves.So far, several senior state officials from Ijara, Bura and other parts of North Eastern counties are under probe by  Ethics and Anti-Corruption agency (EACC) over the misappropriation of relief foods in their areas of jurisdiction.
