Uasin Gishu County chair lady of the Kenya Empowerment of Positive Teachers Mary Goreti has cried foul of much stigmatisation of teachers living with HIV/AIDS virus.
She said most of them are discriminated against their fellow teachers making them unease leading to poor performance.
“It is sad that over 50 percent of teachers living positively face stigmatization at their place of work and homes leading to poor performance. They are just people like you and you should remember that if not infected you are affected in one way or the other,” she said in Eldoret town, Wednesday.
"I urge family members, teachers and the community at large not to discriminate against those affected with the disease but instead embrace them as brothers and sisters because you never know what tomorrow hold for you,” she added.
Goreti urged Kenyans from all divide to go and get tested for them to know their status which will help them plan for their future.
"I call upon all Kenyans to go and conduct an HIV test to know their status so that they may start early treatment if infected and if not advised on how to live negatively to avoid contracting the disease," she noted.
