A section of Kisii University students who lost their properties after the controversial student union polls have a reason to smile after police in Kisii announced recovery of a number of items.
The items are said to have been recovered in Milimani Estate with a note indicating ‘for students’, something that made the police to conclude that the items were among those stolen from students.
OCS Joseph Ndolo confirmed the reports and lauded the police for leading a spirited campaign to recover the items.
“It’s true that we recovered a number of laptops, television sets and other electronic items belonging to students. All we need is the owners to come forward to identify the items at the police station. I want to thank my officers for doing their part by leading the searching, perhaps making the robbers to fear and surrender the items,” he said.
Meanwhile, Kisii University election appeal committee has nullified presidential poll results in which one Jeff Mitei was declared the winner last Friday, leading to skirmishes that led to destruction of property by disgruntled students.
The committee chaired by Prof Philip Owino announced the decision after listening to an appeal by Seth Anunda who had pointed anomalies in polls.
“The committee declares Presidential polls null and void following sufficient evidence by the complainant on massive election malpractices. We direct that the commission carries out a re-run in a week’s time," he stated.
