Politicians in the country have been asked to stop campaigns ahead of the 2022 general elections and instead focus on service delivery.
Speaking in Kisumu on Wednesday, National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC) vice chairperson Ms Irene Wanyoike urged politicians, both at the national and the county level to stop early campaigns and implement their 2017 election pledges.
“Five years mandate bestowed upon politicians is meant for development, not for campaigns,” said Ms Wanyoike.
“Electorates will continue to lose out in every election cycle if politicians continue campaigning at the expense of initiating development activities,” she added.
Ms Wanyoike noted that Kenyans want a conducive environment that can spur growth of the economy, requesting politicians to lead in the healing of the nation and drop the 2022 election campaigns.
She said that early campaigns will take the country backwards, making it difficult to realize the achievement of the big Four Agenda set by President Uhuru Kenyatta.
The government’s big four agenda are: Food security, affordable housing, manufacturing and affordable health for all.
The NCIC Vice chair thanked President Kenyatta and Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Party leader Raila Odinga for agreeing to work together for the sake of peace in the country.
