Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka now wants NASA affiliate parties to stop the 2022 succession debate and concentrate on the opposition’s electoral reforms agenda.
Speaking to journalists outside the National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC) offices on Monday, Kalonzo said discussing succession politics is not a priority now.Kalonzo said that NASA should focus on electoral reforms and justice, adding that the country needs serious reforms to guarantee credibility in future elections.‘‘It is unfortunate that instead of us concentrating on our core mandate that is to fight and push for electoral reforms, we have diverted and are debating 2022 politics,’’ he said.Kalonzo said the 2022 general election will remain ‘useless’ if electoral reforms are not carried out in the country. The Wiper Party leader said that the country is bleeding from electoral fraud, manipulation, and impunity."We cannot continue this way unless we have given up on our core agenda as NASA coalition,’’ he said.Kalonzo said Jubilee will continue its alleged tyranny rule if the NASA coalition abandons its push for reforms. He asked NASA politicians to stop issuing statements that are threatening the unity of the coalition.Kalonzo noted that some politicians are keen to see NASA break up, adding that it will be unfortunate and a big let-down to NASA supporters if they walk separate ways. The Wiper leader reiterated that NASA is intact and committed to its reforms agenda. There have been claims of cracks in the Raila Odinga-led coalition with political analysts predicting a fallout.During the ODM national governing council meeting on Friday last week, Raila, Kalonzo and Musalia Mudavadi assured supporters that they are in NASA to stay. This comes as Wiper Party plans convened a national delegates meeting next month to decide on the party’s future in the NASA coalition.
