Deputy President William Ruto has asked politicians in Jubilee to stop the 2022 succession politics and focus on 2017 polls.
Ruto said on Saturday that 2022 politics was premature.
Speaking at AIC Kipkeikei High School in Trans-Nzoia, the DP said that they are focusing on 2017 and not 2022.
“We must stop this debate about 2022 and focus on 2017,” he said, adding that Jubilee has a strategy to clinch the 2017 elections.
Ruto asked Jubilee leaders to focus on the August 2017 elections.
“I am asking those introducing unnecessary debates about 2022 to stop. The contest present in the area is the 2017 race,” said Ruto as quoted by the Star Newspaper.
The DP said that the ruling coalition will tackle the 2022 issues when time comes. Ruto said that Jubilee has a firm manifesto that aims at driving the country forward.
The past three weeks has seen debate by politicians from Mt Kenya and Rift-Valley about the 2022 politics.
Last week nominated senator Paul Njoroge allegedly asked DP Ruto to stop blackmailing Kikuyu’s for votes. The senator’s remarks were rebuked by Mt Kenya leaders.
Three weeks ago, Kiambu governor William Kabogo was on the spot after his remarks insinuating that it was not automatic that Mt Kenya will support DP Ruto in 2022.
Kabogo later rubbished the remarks saying that he was misquoted adding that he fully supports DP Ruto’s 2022 bid.
The 2022 succession politics might not go away anytime soon.
DP Ruto will be seeking the support of Mt Kenya region to clinch the top seat in the 2022 elections after the retirement of President Uhuru Kenyatta if he clinches the 2017 polls.
President Kenyatta last week affirmed Mt Kenya’s support for DP Ruto in 2022 general elections.
