The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) has set the record straight over the recent attacks on journalist Julie Gichuru.

Speaking through his Twitter handle on Wednesday, ODM director of communication Philip Etale downplayed the allegations that Ms Gichuru had been stalking National Super Alliance (NASA) leader Raila Odinga.

Etale urged social media users to stop using the platform to tarnish other people's names.

“The story of Julie Gichuru attempting to do this or that should be put to rest. Social media should not be used to character assassinate.

“Verification of facts is a must, good for integrity purposes. This applies to both sides. I am not defending anyone,” wrote Etale.

Opposition supporters have been seen on social media leading an onslaught on Gichuru over the allegations.

They claimed that she travelled to the US to spy on Raila during his 10-day trip to the county.
