The Party of National Unity will not join the proposed Jubilee Party expected to be launched next month.
Secretary general John Okwemwa on Tuesday dismissed claims by a section of PNU lawmakers that the party will be folding up to join the proposed Jubilee Party as they ready for the 2017 elections.
According to Citizentv.co.ke, Okwemwa said the rumours doing rounds, adding that they are aimed at creating disharmony in PNU.
“It is not arguable that PNU is the party that brought us the new Constitution despite several fruitless attempts. Those who think the party is dead are daydreaming,” he said.
Meru Senator Kiraitu Murungi had been quoted in a section of the media stating that PNU which is chaired by Asman Kamama, had agreed to merge with other parties to form the Jubilee Party.
But PNU’s latest catch is Meru Governor Peter Munya who has decamped to the party, a vehicle he is expected to use for his 2017 re-election bid as well as his 2022 presidential bid.
"I want to welcome the governor to Jubilee through PNU. I am ready to go to the nominations with him. I don’t understand how the governor did his research. I want him to know that PNU is not available. He can look for another party because the leadership of PNU is with us in Jubilee,” said Kiraitu as quoted by nation.co.ke.
