Women leaders in Kisii County have been urged to shun negative politics if they are to take over political positions in the next coming general elections.
In a stinging rejoinder to claims that his government had left out women, area governor James Ongwae said yesterday after a fundraiser for women in a Kisii hotel that it was time women in leadership positions stopped using their influence to benefit themselves.
“We have had several fundraisers for women but are yet to see their development endeavors. When you are in a position of influence, use it positively for the people who put you there,” said Ongwae.
Ongwae advised the women to forge united bonds as they looked towards developing themselves economically and ensure that they voted in leaders who would work for them.
The governor said he is ready to work with all women in the county while in office.
“I like working with women for they are key in the county development agenda and all of them should stand with the county government,” he added.
