Nakuru County residents have been warned against relying on unconfirmed information being circulated by some social media groups.
Speaking to address the allegations that Senator James Mungai has appeared at the senate few times than nominated senators, Mungai’s personal assistants from both Nakuru and Nairobi have termed the accusations as false and baseless.
Over the weekend, some information run through some Nakuru Facebook groups that the senator’s attendance at senate sittings was poor compared to those of nominated senators.
“Senator Mungai has appeared at the senate more than our nominated senators. The hansard report which the information was gotten from cannot be relied upon since it does not capture the attendance of all the senators nor updated regularly,” said Gladys Muiruri, the Nairobi based PA.
She added that Mungai is the one who responds to all matters pertaining to Nakuru County and that the attendance information can be obtained from the clerk’s office at the senate chamber.
The report that spread on social media indicated that Mungai has appeared at the senate 18 times while the nominated senator had appeared more than 100 times. James Omondi, the Nakuru County PA says that Nakuru politics are biased and that enemies of the senator are spreading the allegations.
“The senator’s is a national office and not a county one. When the public does not see him in meetings, it is either he is busy with the senate affairs,” said Omondi.
According to the constitution, when a senator fails to attend 8 consecutive house meetings, his seat might be declared vacant.
