Omache said that FGM has been the biggest challenge girls in in the county has been facing. This is despite intensive campaigns by various stakeholders to stop it.

Addressing a group of women in Kisii town on Thursday Omache urged women to take rid of that retrogressive culture.

“Early marriages are among the myriad challenges that contribute to low self-esteem among Kisii women. We should all shun away this practice since it endangers our girls and their young ones when giving birth,’’ notes Omache.

She urged the community to empower girls through education saying that is the only way they can save them from the retrogressive practice.

“We must avoid this bad culture of circumcising our girls and marrying them off when they are still young. Otherwise, we shall stay behind forever,’’ notes Omache.

She warned those practising the vice of stiff penalties.
