The lakeside county politicians have also been challenged to empower the high number of unemployed youth and women so that they can get a long term sustainability income generating activities.

Kisumu county assembly minority leader Edwin Anayo has challenged Members of Parliament, MCAs and other politicians to stop issuing money hand-outs claiming that it increases the rate of idleness especially among the youth.

Speaking to our reporter after assessing a playground belonging to Victoria primary school in his ward which was alleged to have been grabbed by a private developer, Anayo said that issuance of cash hand-outs also threatens the security of politicians.

“As political leaders, we need to empower the unemployed rather than giving them hand-outs each and every time we meet them as this does not solve their problem. This does not also serve to reduce the high rate of unemployment,” said Anayo.

He went further to warn his colleagues against carrying too much cash during rallies, functions or meet-the-people tours as this causes a threat to their lives.
