Led by Bishop Washington Ogonyo Ngede of Power of Jesus Around the World, the clerics told the former Senate Minority Leader to accept the fact that he is not equal to Raila, embrace forgiveness and work with the opposition chief in building a firm opposition.

The leaders who spoke in Kisumu on Monday said Raila is not responsible for Wetangula's troubles.

"At a time like this, the least we expected him (Wetangula) to do is to embrace forgiveness and work with the former Prime Minister," a statement signed by the clerics read in part.

"Kenya needs unity and peace now more than ever before," they added.

Those who signed the press statement included Bishop Ngede (chairman), Julius Otieno, Dr Hesbon Njera, Habakuk Abongo, Dr William Abuka, Geoffrey Owiti and Job Othatcher.

Wetangula has been campaigning in Western Kenya accusing Raila of initiating his removal as Senate Minority Leader where he was replaced by Siaya Senator James Orengo last week on Monday.

The former Foreign Affairs Minister while addressing the press in Bungoma town said he would not take back the Senate position even if Raila ordered NASA Senators to 'forgive' him.
