Hate mongers should not be glorified and instead, leaders should watch their mouths whenever they utter any utterances in public, Majority Leader Aden Duale said.
Former Prime Minister Raila Odinga has been lauding five Cord lawmakers who were recently arrested and charged with hate speech.
They were Machakos Senator Johnson Muthama, Busia Women Rep Florence Mutua and her Kilifi Counterpart Aisha Jumwa, MPs junet Muhammed and Timothy Bosire.
"I call upon Jubilee and Cord leaders not to use their powers and tongue to spread ethnic hate as well as divide the country into tribal lines," he said at Wamagana Stadium in Nyeri.
He accused Cord leader Raila Odinga of taking the five round the country glorifying them yet they committed a serious crime stating that this is a wrong move.
His sentiments were echoed by President Uhuru Kenyatta who said it is sad to watch leaders utter hate speeches in public instead of uniting Kenyans for a better country.
The President asked leaders to play their role well and push for development of their respective areas.
The two were speaking during a burial ceremony for Head of Public Service and Chief of Staff Joseph Kinyua’s mother, Hannah Wanjiru Matong’e.
