Kikuyu MP Kimani Ichung’wa has hit out at NASA leader Raila Odinga accusing him of allegedly holding the country hostage.

The Jubilee MP claims that Raila’s alleged refusal to have the repeat poll conducted on October 17 is calculated at sabotaging the country’s economy and causing a constitutional crisis.

In an interview on KTN News on Monday, Ichung’wa said that Raila is causing anxiety and fear among Kenyans.

The MP said that Raila’s demands to the IEBC are malicious claiming that the former prime Minister is not interested in repeat election.

“We are telling Raila Odinga and NASA to stop holding the country hostage and allow the repeat poll to be conducted as ordered by the Supreme Court,” he said as quoted by KTN News.

The Jubilee MP   said that the political standoff off over the repeat presidential poll is hurting the economy.

He said that many business are recording loses as a result of the political anxiety. The Jubilee lawmaker asked NASA leaders to soften up push for realistic reforms.

He said that disbanding the IEBC will delay the repeat presidential election as ordered by the court and push the country into constitutional crisis.

Ichung’wa said that they (Jubilee) MPs will fight any efforts by NASA to push for a coalition government.

NASA is pushing for an overhaul of the IEBC saying the Wafula Chebukati led commission cannot be trusted to conduct free, fair and credible repeat poll.

NASA wants IEBC CEO Ezra Chiloba alongside other officials ejected from the commission over the bungled August 8 presidential election.

Jubilee politicians have however opposed NASA calls for disbandment of the IEBC claiming that the opposition is afraid of repeat election.

IEBC is expected to meet with NASA and Jubilee top leaders on Wednesday to chart way forward ahead of the repeat presidential poll slated for next month.
