President Uhuru Kenyatta has accused the Opposition leaders of propagating hate speech and instigating ethnic tensions in the guise of advocating land rights.
Speaking in Kajiado on Wednesday during a rally in the area, Kenyatta urged Kenyans to reject the NASA alliance, and instead reelect him.
Kenyatta accused his presidential opponent Raila Odinga of inciting residents against other communities living in Kajiado.
Raila came under sharp criticism last month, after the President and his Jubilee Party accused him of spewing hate speech when he urged Kajiado locals not to sell land to outsiders.
The statements attracted attention from law enforcement agencies, with Security CS Joseph Nkaissery saying Odinga will face the law if found to have incited locals.
Odinga however insisted his sentiments did not amount to incitement, and that he was misquoted and his statement blown out of proportion.
. "When a leader starts talking of flushing out members of other communities, that is a recipe for disaster," said the president.
He further promised to help livestock farmers by clearing their loan at the Agricultural Finance Corporation.
“We will not allow politicians to go dividing others on ethnic lines. It shocks me when a leader who wants to lead this country comes here and starts saying those who are not from this area should go. We ask him to go where? Isn't where you are living where your home is?” posed Uhuru.
