Garissa Governor Nathif Jama has urged politicians from the Northern counties to stop inciting the two warring pastoral communities living along the Garissa-Isiolo border.
Governor Jama said the ruling political class has a responsibility to widely promote unity and also the peaceful coexistence between neighbouring communities, instead of making defamatory utterances that may aggravate an already escalating situation.
Jama spoke at the General Mohamud Idd Grounds on Monday, where he marked the Idd-Ull-Adha celebrations.
He further urged the national government to swing into action to avert more deaths and even retaliatory attacks.
“The interior ministry should be constantly alert to the citizens’ problems. State security officers should immediately be tasked to secure the affected regions and open up more safe corridors for the affected families that are trapped in the clashes,” Jama said.
The county chief regretted that the national government is in the habit of waiting until when it’s too late in order to take action.
“Protection of all citizens and their property is very paramount. The relevant ministry in the national government should now ensure that all trouble spots are secured for residents to continue with their uninterrupted daily activities, without fear,” he said.
