Politicians from Machakos County have been told to stop interfering with women operations in the region terming it non-political.
Speaking during launch of Uwezo fund in Mavoko Constituency on Saturday, Machakos County's Maendeleo ya Wanawake Chairlady, Francisca Mutinda, said some politicians from the region were trying to divide women for their personal political interests.
"Some politicians from Machakos County are trying to divide women in this region for their personal political interests," said Mutinda.
Mutinda said that the politicians should know that maendeleo ya wanawake is national and therefore not easy to interfere with on political line.
She said the organization is non-political hence called on all women across the nation, with or without memberships to it to support and work with both national and county governments in their respective counties.
The chairlady told the women to avoid engaging in politics and instead concentrate in development projects to improve livelihoods of own and their families.
According to Mutinda, women do not gossip or talk ill off any leaders especially members of county assemblies from their wards and therefore cautioned the politicians against meddling on women affairs.
She said that the organization intends to conduct mobilization programme in all wards in the country in a bid of empowering women on development projects.
Mutinda told the politicians to stop intimidating women and allow them do their businesses arguing that politicians and maendeleo ya wanawake have different mandate hence no need for the interferences.
