Speaking Saturday in Kwale, Duale downplayed Cord’s allegations of a supposed ill plan between Jubilee and IEBC to rig the 2017 elections in favour of the ruling party, Jubilee, saying that the claims are unfounded and aimed at hiding the instability within the opposition.

“I would like to tell Cord management committee that that they cannot threaten IEBC since it is an independent institution that takes orders from no one,” he said.

“The law is clear on when the IEBC chair Issack Hassan and his commissioners will leave office; and this is only after a new commission has been sworn in, not matter how long the process takes,” he added.

Duale was responding to Cord's management team that comprises Tongaren Member of Parliament Eseli Simiyu, Siaya Senator James Orengo and his Machakos counterpart Johnstone Muthama who alleged of a plan by the IEBC and Jubilee to force the extension of the term of the current government by rigging the elections.
