Wiper vice chairman Senator Mutula Kilonzo Jnr told the defectors they have no business making statement in reference to the party since they have decamped.

"As vice chairperson Wiper Democratic Movement (Kenya), I have noted with concern ultimatums purportedly issued by former members at a church function," he said on Tuesday.

"I wish to advise them for free that Wiper is governed by laws of Kenya and a Constitution. The party leader, Dr Stephen Kalonzo Musyoka will not be coerced or instructed to call for a meeting in 30 days or at all. Their statement is nothing more than wishful thinking."

Although he did not elaborate on the demands made by the defectors, he said the party was solid and still enjoys support countrywide.

"Any person (elected or not) who wishes to call for a meeting of Kambas are free to do so without any reference to the party," he added.

"The party is not a conglomeration of Kambas, a fact these former members seem to have forgotten in their rush to defect. The law allows them to convene a meeting of whoever they please without any reference to the party, the party leader or both."

A section of MPs who recently defected from Wiper and joined the Jubilee Party are said to have demanded that Kalonzo convenes a meeting to chart the way forward for the Kamba community ahead of the 2017 polls.
