The news that NASA had picked Raila Odinga’s brother Oburu Odinga and Kalonzo Musyoka’s son Kennedy Musyoka as candidates for the East African Legislative Assembly (EALA) posting proved to be sweet campaign fodder for Jubilee.
However, Raila’s elder brother has faulted critics especially Majority Leader in the National Assembly Aden Duale for painting him as a parasite that swims in its brother’s sweat. He has made it clear that he joined politics earlier than the NASA presidential flag bearer.
“Why do people link my leadership ambitions with Raila? Are these people aware that I was in politics long before Raila?” he posed as quoted by ukambani.com.
Bondo incumbent Gideon Ochanda floored Oburu in ODM primaries by getting 28,446 against Odinga’s 4,000. This might be the reason he was on the list of EALA appointees but he has withdrawn his name after outcry from Jubilee and the general public. The move had painted opposition as a punch of corrupt leaders that campaign against nepotism but practice it passionately.
“I’m qualified and entitled to be nominated for the EALA post not because I’m Raila’s brother. But three days ago, I withdrew my candidature after consultation with my family,” said Oburu
